Date: April 4, 2010
Habitat: Deep, well drained sand, loam, clay limestone. Prefers acidic soil. Aesculus pavia var. flavescens is native to western counties on the Edwards Plateau and prefers a more basic soil.
Range: Ranges from eastern Texas into central Texas.
Notes: A blooming deciduous that has red bloom clusters. Can hybridize with Aesculus pavia var. flavescens. Aesculus pavia flavescens tends to have pale yellow to bright yellow blooms. Blooms pictured below probably belong to such a hybrid.
